An oil pressure gauge is a critical engine instrument that monitors the pressure of the oil as it circulates through the engine's lubrication system. It serves as a real-time health indicator, ensuring that the oil pump is providing enough pressure to maintain a protective film between moving metal parts, which prevents engine seizure and catastrophic failure.
- Mechanical Gauges: These use a small pipe (capillary tube) to funnel actual engine oil directly to the back of the gauge. The pressure physically moves a needle. While highly accurate and responsive, they carry a slight risk of oil leaking into the cabin if the tube breaks.
